A blog, as you may know, is originally short for web log. I am not suggesting you keep a journal for your Author/Speaker life, I’m not advocating against it either.

From a digital marketing and promotion tool perspective, you can use your blog to directly promote yourself and as a side benefit increase your value in the eyes of search engines by keeping your website “live”. Fresh content gets the search bots visiting your site more often and its a great way to keep your fans coming back soon. Don’t have any fans? You will, just keep that great content coming!

So What Are Some Great Benefits To Having A Blog?

1) Get the (your) word out. Blogs are a great promotion platform – and it’s either free or ridiculously cheap. New books, speeches, events and even new articles can be announced to the world on your blog. You can let your readers, clients and potential clients know what’s new and what is coming soon! A blog post is kind of like an article so who would write an article promoting an article? I have many times for my clients many times with great result as well as many other successful promoters. Try it – you just might like it!

2) Blog Posts Are Easy For You To Share And For Others To Share As Well

It’s easy to post directly to your blog any time you want. If you have an idea in the middle of the night – post it. You can even post by email with some systems. Your post will have a link and you can send that to anybody you like by email or text. Some blogs have RSS feeds that will allow you to syndicate your content all over the web and even let people subscribe to get your newest thoughts when they are posted.

3) Did I mention Search Engines? Increase Your Rankings!

I have been ranking websites before Google was even considered important. Everyone wanted to get on Yahoo back then, Boy did that change fast! SEO changes all the time and right now fresh, unique content is the food Google Beast feeds on. Feed it well and it ill treat you like a loyal dog..or at least it won’t eat you!

4) Audience Research and Topic Idea Generator

You can track what posts get the most views and get an idea of the subjects that interest your audience the most. People will leave comments and ask questions if you let them. This can be a great lead source for more topic ideas for additional posts and even your next book!

There are many ways to set up a blog if you don’t have one yet. You can google it or even check YouTube. Your website might already have one ready to go.
